GUERCIOTTI

I acquired this Guerciotti aluminum frame in the spring of 1988.  It was one of the first decent aluminum frames on the market.  It was built before the days of being able to butt weld aluminum tubing together so it was built using cast aluminum lugs and gluing the tubing together.  Most of these frames have come apart over the years due to heavy riders pounding on them.  These frames were only rated for 160 pound and under riders from the factory.

This bike, like my Trek 400, has seen a lot of changes over the years.  When I traded for the frame it was painted red.  I stripped the paint and polished the lugs.  I then painted the tubes alternating between black and yellow.  Next came the graphics which I designed, made and applied.  It was originally built up with a seven speed Shimano 600 group then went eight speed S.T.I. before finally being upgraded to a 9 speed rear cog,

The drive train on this bike is a mixture of Shimano Ultegra and Dura-Ace.  The wheels, front derailleur and bottom bracket are Dura-Ace while the S.T.I. shifters, crank set, and rear derailleur are Ultegra.  The bars are Icon's on a profile stem which attaches to a Profile carbon fork.  The brakes are Cane Creek ultra light double pull models.  They weigh only 150 grams but they do not stop very well.  The seat is again a Terry "Fly" and it sits on a Use carbon seat post.  For an almost 20 year old bike it is still pretty light at 18 pounds even.  I rode this bike almost daily for over 14 years and now it is relegated to being ridden only once or twice a month.  It has carried me for over 50,000 documented miles.
