MORE SATISFIED 2007 OWNERS

A certain percentage of 2007 Harley owners are very satisfied.  While some of these folks do notice some of the idiosyncrasies of this production run their overall impression of the new bikes is very positive.  Many folks can put up with a little heat or a little transmission whine when weighed against the overall positive traits of the new motorcycles.  Here are some more letters stating just that.

Thanks for the heads-up, Michael.

I did buy an '07 Fat Boy and am pretty happy with it so far (1200 miles).
I will keep an eye on this recall, though.

I bought my 2007 FLHTC in september and put 2200 miles on it so far.  First Harley I've owned, although I've rented them before for day trips.  I love my bike.  It handles better then expected and I am surprised to find that out because of all the 'technical' talk I've read about Harleys in the past.  My FLHTC handles better then my Valkyrie, and that was supposed to be one of the best handling heavy weights out there.  Especially in close quarters, like small filled parking lots, the FLHTC is confidence inspiring.  It seems a magnet for the twisties.

Very comfortable and the engine puts out some serious get up and go, even with the wife on board where our combined weight is over 440 pounds.  Great bike Harley.  Easily the best tourer on the market for the 18K I paid, and it has real character.

Now about the gear noise.  It's there, and the rattle in sixth gear and fifth gear, sometimes, had me run right back to the dealer.  I made the head mechanic ride it to make sure there's nothing wrong with it.  The rattle does not have me worried though as it disappears under additional load when accelerating.  I think it's the shift dog rattling against its retainer or the housing when not under load.  Get up in the acceleration or over 3000rpm and the rattle is gone.

I think Harleys traditionally have been driven at low rpm due their torque characteristics.  This new engine doesn not seem at home on the low rpm range, 2400 or less, and neither does the drive train.  This bike simply needs to be revved a bit higher.  I plan on getting hold of a tranny blue print and see where the various non-load parts are and how close to their housing.  Since the major change in the 2006 tranny design was how the gears are activated, I suspect there's a part that doesn't have the right clearance when at rest and not under load.  By the sound of the metal, it's a small and light weight metallic part.

Picked up a new 07 Road Glide  11/5/06 the recall had been done the to ecm at the dealers before pick up. Had a slight whine in 5th gear, fixed it with Redline Shockproof heavy gear oil. The engine had a heat problem fixed it with the HD cooler, less heat and a lot quieter now. Have to give this bike a A+ as it is now . plan on a PC and pipes and A/C this week , I think it will only get better as time and miles add up. Been riding HDs for ove 40 years and this bike so far has had less problems than any I have owned before.

Hey Michael,

Just thought I would let you know, I have a 2007 FLHTC, and am loving it.  It is my 4th new Harley, and I have to say it is the best out of the bunch.  Everything is working as advertised, no hesitations or skipping, starts right up and runs very smooth.  There may be a slight whine in 5th, but it is barely noticeable, and is a good indication as to where you are in the gear box.  I haven't had the recall done yet, as the local dealer says he won't have the software until around the end of December.

I think the dealer (Adamec's in Orange Park Florida) is treating me ok, at least there hasn't been any problems with them so far.  I will get back to you after I have the update done and let you know how it goes.  They also recommended that I wait on doing a stage one (Pipes and air cleaner change) until after the major manufacturers come out with the pipes for the 96 inch motor.

Guess that's it for now, if you have any news to share, or suggestions, I'll be happy to listen.

I asked my wife a while back what she wanted for Christmas – she replied “A blue/white Deluxe”.  A week later I had her take a test ride, and we traded in the ’04 Low Rider.  She was (and is) so happy with it that I traded in my ’06 Road King two weeks later on a ’07 Road Glide.  Both bikes were November builds, both have run great from day one.  Both are noisy in 5th below 3000 rpm – easy enough to fix!  Both are in now for air cleaner/exhaust/map.  We are both very happy with them, just wanted a little LOUDER!

We both feel that these bikes are happier turning more rpm than the 88s we had before.  That may change once they can breathe – they may pull a bit better.  Even if they don’t, neither of us are disappointed at all – we’ll just shift a little later!

I installed Vance and Hines slip on mufflers and took it to the dealer for recall. Now it sounds great and runs a lot smoother. I am happy with my 07 Ultra. But the heat problem is the only thing I have experienced and they temp fixed that at 800 miles. Now at 5000 I am real pleased.

If you are happy with your 2007 H-D please be sure and drop me a line.  I want to present every side to this story.  Once again; if you have something to add, good or bad, email me at biners@crowderinc.com
