1978 FLH BUILD PAGE 2

I did all of the mock-up, body work and sandblasting at my shop.  This gave me a chance to take my time and push it to the side anytime I needed to actually work on paying jobs or was waiting on parts.  I sprayed all of my final paint at Kent Waters Originals.  Kent builds custom resto-rods and does factory correct restorations of vintage muscle cars.  Even though he was trying to get two cars done for the Barrett-Jackson Auction he still was gracious enough to let me gum up his spray booth for a week while I laid all of my coats of paint.

The paint work took more time than I had ever imagined.  First was stripping paint and sandblasting.  Then came body work.  There were only a couple of small dents in my tins so I lucked out on that.  The most time consuming part was priming and block sanding.  I put about 10 coats of primer on before the color started.

The first coat of primer was a non sanding ultra high zinc content paint made by Valspar.  Next came two coats of high build sandable primer then came a coat of standard primer before the block sanding began.  I did not want to risk getting into the protective coating of the zinc based primer.  Then the tedious chore of priming and block sanding began.
