2004 LE TOUR DE FRANCE

I had not been to a major sporting event since as a spectator since I was a kid and went to all of the Atlanta Braves home games during Hank Aaron's record setting homerun streak.  I saw him hit close to half of his homeruns from number 600 thru 715.  The one exception to this was Phil Niekro's final game as an Atlanta Brave until the 2004 le Tour de France.  I did not think that I was a spectator type at all.

I have been an avid cycling fan since the early 80's.  After Greg Lemond won his first Tour I was hooked on watching everything I could on this grand race.  For years, the only coverage of the tour here in the U.S.A. was one hour per week on CBS each Sunday.  When ESPN began daily coverage I signed up for expanded cable immediately.  I currently have over 100 video tapes of past Tour stages and watch them when I am riding my trainer during the winter months or on rainy days.  When Lance tied the record with five wins I told my better half that we would be there to see him break the record and boy were we.  What a great trip!

I am going to cover all of the stages we saw on this trip.  It will take a while so be patient.  I am also going to write a couple of pages of tips for folks that want to see the Tour in person but aren't sure the best way to go about it.  I hope ya'll enjoy this just a fraction of the amount that I have.  If you have anything to contribute please send it to JavaScript must be enabled to display this email address.
